The New York Jets shockingly fired head coach Robert Saleh in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Saleh showed up to work a normal day and then found out that he was out of a job.

Jets Shockingly Fire Head Coach After 5 Games, Already Name Replacement

When head coaches are fired, they generally want to address the team one more time. However, that did not happen with Saleh. A new report indicated that the former head coach was escorted out of the building and was not allowed to address any players.

Initially, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported that Saleh was escorted off the premises by Jets head of security. That report was then corroborated by senior NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

“My understanding is that Robert Saleh was fired this morning and then escorted out of the building by team security. There was no meeting with players to inform them or anything like that. He was in the building for work, and then he was out of the building and out of a job,” Schultz’s post reads.

More detailed information has been coming out about the firing. The decision to let go of Saleh came down directly from owner Woody Johnson. Johnson released a statement on the firing, which stated:

“This morning, I informed Robert Saleh that he will no longer serve as the Head Coach of the Jets. I thanked him for his hard work these past three-and-a-half years and wished him and his family well moving forward. This was not an easy decision, but we are not where we should be given our expectations, and I believe now is the best time for us to move in a different direction.

Jeff Ulbrich will serve as our Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the season. He is a tough coach who has the respect of the coaches and players on this team. I believe he along with the coaches on this staff can get the most of our talented team and attain the goals we established this offseason.”

Saleh has also reportedly stated that he has no plans to pick up a coaching job for the rest of the 2024 NFL season. He is instead going to take a vacation with his family and will prepare for a defensive coordinator position after the 2024 season concludes.

Saleh is a strong defensive mind, and he should have zero issues getting a coordinator position next season. Though he did not live up to expectations as head coach for the Jets, he can still put together a strong defensive plan for a team in the future.
