A great deal of disappointment has spread throughout the Notre Dame campus and fanbase following the team’s exclusion from the College Football Playoff and subsequent decision not to participate in a bowl game of any kind, presumably as some form of self-flagellating protest.

However, the program got good news on Monday as running back Jeremiyah Love was named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, which goes to the top college football player in the land every year.

Notre Dame made its own announcement of the honor via the university’s official X account.

“The Bend ☘️ ➡️ Big Apple 🍎,” Notre Dame wrote. “Jeremiyah Love is NYC bound as a 2025 Heisman Finalist 🫶. #GoIrish🫶 | @JeremiyahLove | @HeismanTrophy.”

Notre Dame Escapes Punishment for Rejecting Bowl Game

Love, 20, put up a monster season in his junior campaign, rushing for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns on 6.9 yards per carry. He also caught 27 passes for 280 yards and three scores.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic predicted on December. 3 that Love will depart Notre Dame in April via the NFL draft, and that he will be the first running back off the board. In his most recent mock, Brugler has Love remaining in the midwest and heading to play for an NFC North team with a recent track record of success.

“Love is one of the best players in the draft but positional value will limit his landing spots in the top half of Round 1,” Brugler wrote. “Here, that just means the [Minnesota] Vikings get value by adding the draft’s most explosive offensive weapon — a versatile back who’d help both the run and pass games.”

Joining Love as Heisman Finalists are Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin, Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza and Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia. The winner will be announced on an ABC broadcast that begins at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, Dec. 13.
