Thousands of current and former DoorDash delivery workers in New York may be entitled to compensation under a $16.75 million settlement stemming from an investigation by the state’s attorney general’s office into how the company handled customer tips.

Why It Matters

The DoorDash settlement will put millions of dollars back into the hands of delivery workers who were affected.

The New York attorney general’s office found DoorDash used a pay model that applied customer tips toward the company’s guaranteed payment, rather than paying tips on top of base earnings. According to the attorney general, this practice misled Dashers and customers, who believed tips were going directly to workers as extra compensation.

Who Was Eligible to Apply for the Settlement?

According to the attorney general and the official settlement administrator, Dashers are eligible for the payments if both of the following conditions applied:

  • They used the DoorDash app to deliver food in New York state between May 2017 and September 2019
  • DoorDash applied some or all of their customer tips toward the guaranteed payment DoorDash promised for a delivery, rather than paying tips on top of that amount

Only current or former Dashers who met these criteria and received notice from the settlement administrator were able to submit claims. The attorney general’s office has said approximately 63,000 New York delivery workers were affected by the pay model during the covered period.

When Was the Deadline to File for the Settlement?

The claim filing deadline was extended multiple times and ultimately set for February 13, 2026, according to the official settlement website and the state’s attorney general’s office.

Eligible Dashers had to submit a completed claim form, either online or by mail, by that date in order to receive compensation. Claims submitted after the deadline are not eligible for payment.

When Could Dashers Get Paid for the Settlement?

Payments are being issued on an ongoing basis to Dashers with approved claims. The settlement administrator, Atticus Administration LLC, is responsible for processing and distributing payments from the settlement fund.

According to the attorney general’s settlement information sheet, payments are made on a bi‑monthly basis and are only issued to claimants whose calculated share is at least $10.

Eligible Dashers can receive their money through several payment methods, including check and electronic payment options such as ACH, Venmo, Zelle, or prepaid card, depending on the selection made in their claim form.

What People Are Saying

Alex Beene, a financial literacy instructor for the University of Tennessee at Martin, told Newsweek: “If one delivered food for the company during this time, you may be eligible for compensation. There’s no formal registration. Rather, DoorDash will reach out to affected employees on further details and any questions they may have.”

He added: “This settlement brings to light concerns from not just those who use food delivery apps for consumption, but also those who work through them. They want to ensure they’re being fairly paid, and all additional pay like tips goes to the right area.”
