When the family has finished the Thanksgiving feast, and there’s time between clean-up and dessert, what better activity than to come together in front of the TV and veg out on some comfort shows?
This Thanksgiving, Watch With Us has a list of the three best shows to watch on Netflix when you’ve got some chill time to spare.
Our picks include the cozy Gilmore Girls revival series A Year in the Life, along with the holiday edition of The Great British Baking Show and a classic sitcom where any episode can be thrown on for maximum enjoyment — Seinfeld.
Check out our picks below!
‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’ (2016)
Reprising their roles as Rory and Lorelei Gilmore, Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham reunite for this special, four-episode limited series revival of the classic Gilmore Girls. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life follows the mother-daughter duo alongside many of the show’s original characters and cast members, set ten years after the finale of the original show. Fans get to return to Stars Hollow for an entire year, each episode marking a different season, like fall and summer, as we catch up on the major life changes and struggles of our favorite characters.
Gilmore Girls is already an ultimate comfort show for many, and A Year in the Life is an easy, breezy four-episode stint that can be consumed during a single afternoon or evening — a perfect family watch for Thanksgiving. Critics praised this revival series for its warm, nostalgic tone and lovely continuation of a story fans know and adore.
‘The Great British Baking Show: Holidays’ (2018-Present)
This holiday twist on the beloved British cooking competition brings back either a group of bakers from previous seasons or a group of celebrity competitors like the cast of It’s a Sin and British soap stars, as they face off against one another, creating delectable desserts fit for Kris Kringle himself. Judged by Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, each season features two episodes with a different set of bakers.
With only two episodes per season and no extended competition narrative, The Great British Baking Show: Holidays is as light and delicious as the confections created by its cast of bakers. Either throw it on to have something pleasant playing in the background or enjoy for an easy post-meal diversion, this iteration of The Great British Baking Show is perhaps the perfect family watch for the holidays.
‘Seinfeld’ (1989-1998)
New York comedian Jerry Seinfeld lives in an apartment across the hall from a next-door neighbor named Kramer (Michael Richards), who doesn’t understand boundaries, while maintaining his career as a stand-up, dating eclectic women and being consistently thrown into wacky situations alongside Kramer and pals George (Jason Alexander) and Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Together, the four friends navigate the craziness of living in the Big Apple, while being just as odd and eccentric as the other people they encounter.
Seinfeld is the best sitcom to put on when you have nothing else to watch. With only loose overarching narratives, it’s easy to watch just about any episode of the beloved sitcom bereft of context, and it’ll play like gangbusters with a group. Seinfeld still endures as one of the funniest and best sitcoms of all time, and therefore a perfect crowd-pleaser for family gatherings.
