The Masters sits just over a week away and the golfing world is waiting with baited breath to watch the world’s best in action during the first major tournament of the year.
Before Augusta National sits center stage, though, the PGA Tour will have one final event: the Valero Texas Open. There’s still plenty at stake for a number of golfers including one of the biggest names in the sport, Rickie Fowler, who needs win this weekend to secure a spot in the Masters field.
Fan favorite Gary Woodland did just that over the weekend at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, winning his first event since his U.S. Open victory over Brooks Koepka in 2019, to punch his ticket to Augusta.

Following his five-shot victory and a Masters berth secured, Woodland decided to opt out of the Valero Texas Open this weekend, allowing Jackson Suber a spot in the field on Monday, March 30.
Just a day earlier, Pierceson Coody, Nicolai Hojgaard and Matti Schmid all withdrew from the Valero Texas Open which opened the door for Taylor Moore, Joel Dahmen and Sam Ryder, respectively.
While those four decided to opt out, there are still plenty of big names playing in the tournament this weekend as Jordan Spieth, Ludvig Aberg and Tommy Fleetwood – among plenty of others – will be teeing it up.
The tournament kicks off from TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course on Thursday morning.
