From winning a gold medal to getting engaged, the 2024 Paris Olympics have been filled with happy milestones for China badminton player Huang Yaqiong.

Shortly after Huang and her mixed doubles partner, Zheng Siwei, won the gold on Aug. 2, her romantic partner, Liu Yuchen, who is also a member of China’s badminton team, got down on one knee to pop the question.

Huang placed her hand over her mouth in surprise as Liu presented her with an engagement ring, according to images capturing the couple’s special moment.

Huang, who said yes to Liu’s proposal, said through an interpreter that she had no idea Liu planned to ask her to marry him in Paris, according to The Associated Press.

“For me, the proposal is very surprising because I have been preparing for the game,” she said. “Today I am an Olympic champion and I got proposed (to), so that’s something I didn’t expect.”

The official Olympics website shared a pic of the couple’s proposal while noting they aren’t the only athletes to get engaged at the Summer Games.

Argentine men’s handball player Pablo Simonet proposed to his girlfriend, Maria Campoy, a member of Argentina’s women’s hockey team, in the Olympic Village before the Games began, according to the site.

Simonet and Campoy have been a couple since 2015, the site reported.
