Police received reports the boy had been jumping off rocks and swimming when he was bitten multiple times.

Witnesses applied a tourniquet to the boy’s leg before he was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital.

“The boy, believed to be aged about 12, is being treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and first responders at the scene for serious leg injuries,” police said in a statement.

“The beach has been closed and swimmers are advised to avoid swimming in the water at this time. There is no further information available at this time.”
