After trading both Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams on Tuesday prior to the NFL trade deadline, the remainder of the 2025 season looks incredibly bleak for the New York Jets on paper.
Sitting at 1-7 on the year, New York opted to prepare for a long-term rebuild by trading Gardner and Williams. In total, the Jets received a combined three first-round and a second-round pick over the next two NFL drafts for the former Pro Bowlers.
This obviously bodes incredibly well for the future of the Jets. However, a portion of their fanbase likely isn’t all that pleased that the organization seems to be essentially giving up on any hopes of turning things around this season by making these moves.
Addressing the trade on Wednesday, Aaron Glenn sent a strong message to Jets fans, saying that his goal moving forward is to build a team that the fanbase can “be proud of”, which is obviously not the case currently.

“I want this to be a team the fans are proud of,” said Glenn. “I never said they were going to be proud of them right now. At some point, I want them to be a team the fans are proud of. I stick to that, this WILL be a team the fans are proud of.”

Rebuilding the Jets organization was always going to be a difficult task for Aaron Glenn. Notably, the team hasn’t made the postseason since 2010 and hasn’t finished with a record over .500 since 2015.
Acquiring these draft picks for the future should certainly aid Glenn in rebuilding things in New York down the road. That being said, it is certainly a gut punch for a team already struggling this season to not only lose their two best defensive players, but essentially see the front office declare that this season is a wash.
How this Jets team responds will certainly say a lot about how Glenn is able to deal with adversity and inspire his team when things aren’t looking so great. So it will be interesting to see whether things go further downhill in New York under Glenn or whether they are able to turn things around in the near future.
