The Alabama Crimson Tide have lost 12 players to the NCAA transfer portal since mid-December, and the team has its work cut out in trying to rebuild its roster to get back to the College Football Playoff in 2026.

Alabama has lost a lot of talent, but the biggest hit of all came when former five-star wide receiver Jaylen Mbakwe announced he was entering the portal.

Mbakwe, who was the No. 3-ranked player in the state of Alabama and the No. 11-ranked player nationally in the class of 2024, recorded just three catches for 55 yards this season in two appearances, but his loss is a big blow for next season.

With Germie Bernard set to head to the NFL, and four-star WRs Cole Adams and Jalen Hale hitting the transfer portal as well, the door was open for Mbakwe to battle for playing time with Isaiah Horton and Lotzier Brooks behind Ryan Wiliams in 2026.

Williams took to social media shortly after the news of Mbakwe’s decision broke to make it known how he felt about losing his talented teammate.

“🤞🏾🤞🏾,” Williams posted on his Instagram story with a post of the announcement, seemingly signaling he was wishing Mbakwe good luck at his next destination.

Alabama fans had some strong reactions on social media to Mbakwe’s transfer as well.

“Stole money. 👋🏼,” one fan wrote.

“Weeks after this clown said ‘no chance in hell i’m leaving’ you can’t trust these kids,” another fan scoffed.

“It isn’t greener!” a third fan replied.

“Glad he’s dipping, he was getting paid wayyy too much for nothing,” one user remarked.
