An Olympian, ARIA-nominated musician and record label owner has been accused of domestic violence and prevented from approaching a woman for her protection.

Folk singer-songwriter Paul Greene, who recently played at the Nimbin Roots Festival, has been issued an Apprehended Violence Order in Nowra Local Court.

Paul Greene has had an AVO issued against him for a woman’s protection.

The order, which was made by consent and without admissions from Greene, lasts for two years and prevents him from contacting or coming within 100 metres of the woman. She cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Greene is well-known within the music industry and in the wider Shoalhaven area.

The 52-year-old has performed with Midnight Oil’s Rob Hirst as Hirst & Greene, with Paul Greene & The Other Colours at the National Folk Festival, and has performed at a Greens Council election event.

He is also an ambassador for the music rights management organisation APRA AMCOS, and the founder of the record label and events companies Sounds Delicious and Red Shelf Records. He was a finalist in the ARIA Awards in 2012.

Greene also competed in the 1996 Olympic Games as a sprinter, as well as in the 1990, 1994 and 1996 Commonwealth Games.

In 2018, an application for an Apprehended Violence Order for a different woman was heard by the court and dismissed.
