Nominations for the 2026 Oscars have officially been revealed, and as usual, film fans are already calling out some major surprises and snubs.

Lewis Pullman and Danielle Brooks teamed up to announce the nominees for the 98th annual Academy Awards on Thursday, January 22. Sinners dominated the nominations list, with a record-breaking total of 16 opportunities to take home one of Hollywood’s most coveted trophies.

Other notable (and not surprising) contenders include Timothée Chalamet for Best Actor, Paul Thomas Anderson for Best Director, Jessie Buckley for Best Actress and Teyana Taylor for Best Supporting Actress.

Among the awards season regulars were a few more unexpected names, including Elle Fanning for Best Supporting Actress (Sentimental Value) and Kate Hudson for Best Actress (Song Sung Blue).

Even more shocking, however, were the stars and movies that were left out of the running entirely. Following an impressive showing at the 2025 Oscars, pop culture phenomenon Wicked: For Good didn’t even earn one nomination this year.

The 2026 Oscars air on ABC Sunday, March 15. Scroll down for a look at more of the biggest nominations snubs:

‘Wicked: For Good’

Despite receiving a whopping 10 nominations — and two wins — at the 2025 Academy Awards, part two of the movie musical event came away with zero Oscar nods. Costars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were left out of the major acting categories, and director Jon M. Chu got no recognition from the Academy.

Guillermo del Toro

Frankenstein has been a staple of this year’s awards season, but director Guillermo del Toro was not nominated at the Oscars.

Amanda Seyfried

Shortly after admitting that an Oscar nomination “isn’t necessary” for her to feel accomplished, Amanda Seyfried was nowhere to be found on the list of nominees for her role in The Testament of Ann Lee.

Paul Mescal

Hamnet is nominated in 14 categories — including Best Picture and Best Director for Chloe Zhao — but Paul Mescal‘s supporting performance didn’t make the cut.

Chase Infiniti

Though the breakout star of One Battle After Another snagged nods at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and Actor Awards this year, Chase Infiniti got no love from the Oscars.

Jesse Plemons

Emma Stone broke records with her Bugonia nomination, becoming the youngest woman in Oscars history to earn seven nominations. Her costar Jesse Plemons, however, was noticeably snubbed.

‘Sorry, Baby’

Writer, director and star Eva Victor earned a shout-out from Julia Roberts at the 2026 Golden Globes, but it seems the Hollywood legend’s praise wasn’t enough to earn an Oscar nomination.

George Clooney

Following a string of nominations at various awards ceremonies throughout the year, George Clooney‘s Jay Kelly fell short at the Oscars.

‘Weapons’

While Amy Madigan has the chance to win a Best Supporting Actress trophy for her Weapons role, the mystery horror film was left out of the running for Best Picture.
