Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills took down the reigning AFC-champion Kansas City Chiefs with a 28-21 final score in Orchard Park on Sunday evening.
With this Week 9 victory, Allen’s regular-season record against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improves to 5-1. The reigning league MVP has a 5-5 record against Kansas City including the playoffs.
Game planning for Allen is one of the toughest jobs for defensive coordinators around the league. And after the final whistle blew at Highmark Stadium, Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo made sure he made that abundantly clear.
“I don’t want to play you anymore,” Spagnuolo told Allen with a smile during their postgame handshake. “I want you to retire. Nice job.”

Allen finished the Bills’ sixth win of the season with 273 yards and one touchdown on 23/26 passing. The dual-threat signal caller also rushed for 19 yards and two touchdowns with his legs — making him the first quarterback in NFL history to record at least six rushing touchdowns in each of his first eight seasons.
Through the first eight games of the Bills’ 2025 campaign, Allen has 1,833 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions with a 70.4 completion percentage. The 29-year-old QB also has 280 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.
“He just has a real keen sense of finding that little seam,” Spagnuolo said of Allen earlier in the week. “And if he gets past the four or five [rushers] that you’re bringing, that’s where he’s really dangerous.”

Running back James Cook put forth another great effort for the Bills in Week 9, rushing for 114 yards against Spagnuolo’s defense. Third-year tight end Dalton Kincaid led the way for Allen’s passing attack, reeling in six catches for 101 yards and one touchdown.
Allen and the Bills will look to continue their positive momentum into next Sunday’s Week 10 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
Spagnuolo and the Chiefs are now entering their Week 10 bye.
