The Toronto Blue Jays have overhauled their starting rotation over the past season, bringing in multiple talented hurlers.
The Blue Jays signed Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce this offseason to bolster a rotation that already has Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage and José Berríos. Even last season, Toronto invested in improving its rotation, trading with the Cleveland Guardians for former Cy Young winner Shane Bieber before the trade deadline.
Bieber excelled with the Blue Jays after returning from injury, going 4-2 with a 3.57 ERA across seven appearances. The 30-year-old is back in Toronto after opting into his contract, but he dealt with forearm fatigue toward the end of last season.
MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson believes the Blue Jays should monitor Bieber’s lingering injury during spring training due to his injury history.
“Speaking of Berríos and the rotation jam … Bieber reportedly dealt with some forearm fatigue at the end of 2025,” Matheson wrote Saturday. “That’s not terribly alarming just yet, given that Bieber was coming off a long rehab from Tommy John surgery, but it’s absolutely worth monitoring this spring. If Bieber is throwing his normal bullpens in the early days, exhale and carry on. If anything is delayed or slowed, this gets interesting.”
Bieber has struggled with injuries, appearing in only nine regular-season games in the last two seasons, so it’s worth monitoring how his arm is holding up to start spring training. There have been rumors all offseason about Toronto potentially trading Berríos, but the Blue Jays could need the former All-Star in the rotation if Bieber faces any setbacks.
