Over the past couple of years, the Arizona Cardinals have been rumored to potentially move on from starting quarterback Kyler Murray. Since being drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Murray has yet to live up to his full potential.

At 28 years old, Murray still has time to get his career back on track. He has shown flashes of the potential that he entered the NFL with, but his consistency has been a problem. Injuries have also been an issue for him.

Should the Cardinals be open to the idea of moving on from Murray, there are going to are some intriguing options available in the 2026 NFL Draft this coming offseason.

Los Angeles Rams Could Target Polarizing Matthew Stafford Replacement

Keeping that in mind, Arizona has received a new quarterback projection. If the prediction came true, the Cardinals would look to replace Murray with a surging SEC quarterback.

Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network has predicted in his latest mock draft that Arizona will make an aggressive trade up in the first round to land Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson.

“Still, for a Cardinals team desperately seeking competence under center in what appears to be the twilight of Kyler Murray’s frenetic tenure, Simpson is a clear operational upgrade,” Cummings wrote. “That’s why Arizona makes the move up to fourth overall to bring in the Alabama QB.”

Simpson has put together a strong 2025 season with Alabama. He has helped lead the team to the SEC championship game next weekend.

Throughout the course of the year, Simpson has completed 65.8 percent of his pass attempts for 3,056 yards, 25 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He has also picked up 126 yards and two more scores on the ground.

Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes Get Striking Prediction Following Cowboys Defeat

As for Murray, the veteran quarterback has only played in five games this season. He has thrown for 962 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions, while completing 68.3 percent of his passes and running for 173 yards and a score. Last season, Murray threw for 3,851 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 17 games.

It will be interesting to see whether or not the Cardinals do look into replacing Murray. Simpson would be a prime candidate to be that replacement should they choose to do so.
