Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin suffered a quad injury during the third quarter of Sunday’s Week 3 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
The 30-year-old wideout sustained the injury while lunging for the goal line on a would-be 57-yard touchdown grab. The play was initially ruled a score, but official review ultimately ruled him down inside the 1-yard line. McLaurin spent the rest of the game on the sideline and did not return.
McLaurin’s status for Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons is in question as he continues to seek additional opinions on his quad injury. He will receive another professional opinion on Wednesday, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
“Terry McLaurin will receive another opinion on his quad today, and he’s received several — including from Dr. Williams Meyers, the nation’s expert in core muscle injuries. As of now, they believe it’s a quad injury. But more tests coming, as his status is in doubt for Sunday,” Rapoport wrote on X.
A reply from Evan Jeffries, a well-known sports doctor on X, sparked additional concern regarding McLaurin’s longterm status.
“This is interesting but essentially it seems they are trying to figure out if this a sports hernia type of injury because it is probably higher up in the thigh close to the junction of lower core muscles and groin Likely means it’s more serious than initially thought and this weekend is in doubt,” Jeffries wrote.
McLaurin and the Commanders came to terms on a three-year, $96 million contract extension before the start of the 2025 NFL season.
The two-time Pro Bowler has reeled in 10 catches for 149 yards and no touchdowns through his first three games of this year’s campaign. If he’s set to miss any significant time, it’ll be a big blow to a Commanders offense that ranks ninth in the NFL (346 yards per game) but is also dealing with an injury to quarterback Jayden Daniels as well.
The Commanders are 2-1 to start the year with wins over the Giants and Raiders, and a loss to the Green Bay Packers. With or without McLaurin, they’ll kickoff against the Falcons at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
