The last thing Buffalo Bills fans wanted to hear following the team’s 13-12 home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday was that quarterback Josh Allen was hobbled.

Allen, who injured his ankle in the previous week’s victory over the Cleveland browns, seemingly injured himself again in Sunday’s matchup. Midway through the third quarter, cameras caught Allen limping off the field while favoring his right foot — the same one he injured in Week 16.

Allen stayed in the game, and he nearly led Buffalo to a 13-point come-from-behind win. He completed 23 of 35 passes for 262 yards, and he scored both of the Bills’ touchdowns on the ground, but a failed 2-point conversion in the final seconds of the fourth quarter left Buffalo one point short of keeping its division and No. 1 seed hopes alive.

After the game, a worrying report emerged on social media regarding Allen’s injury status courtesy of The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia

“Bills QB Josh Allen just came out of the X-Ray room here at the stadium. He was limping a bit and favoring his right leg,” Buscaglia wrote.

Matthew Bove of WKBW also reported that Allen emerged from the trainer’s room without any form of protection (walking boot, cast) on his foot and that Allen told reporters he was fine. However, players can’t always be taken at their word.

Earlier this season, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb told reporters his ankle sprain he suffered in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears was no big deal and that he could play the following week.

Lamb proceeded to miss Dallas’ next three games before returning in Week 7 after his injury was deemed much more serious than he led on.

A further update on Allen’s status will likely be given by the Bills once his X-ray results come back.

Buffalo can’t win the AFC East or clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC, but the team is playoff bound. With an inconsequential game against the New York Jets next week, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Bills rested Allen in preparation for its playoff opener the following week.
