The Dallas Cowboys are currently 3-4-1 on the season, and were dominated by the Denver Broncos with a final score of 44-24. There is a glaring need for more defensive help, but Jerry Jones continues to balk at the idea of trading for anyone.

Jones stated a couple of weeks ago that the defense would get better. That was marginally true in Week 7 when the Cowboys shut down the Washington Commanders. However, their lopsided loss to the Broncos has proven yet again that something must be done.

Despite giving up a second-worst 404.6 yards per game to opponents and a second-worst 258.6 passing yards per game, Jones is adamant that the defense is fine where it is at.

Jones joined 105.3 The Fan to talk about the current state of the defense and also revealed that the Cowboys are not going to jump at any trades.

In the comments shared by The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Jones shut down trade talk with a blunt statement.

“I can tell you this right now, there is not a trade in my mind, the beginning and end of one, as we sit here and talk … that I would do,” Jones said.

In terms of the passing defense being one of the worst in the NFL, Jones also stated that it’s not as bad as people are making it seem.

“In terms of numbers, in terms of players that can rush the passer, we’ve got the best numbers that we’ve had,” Jones said.

Jones was also asked about the idea that the Cowboys could trade for a linebacker.

“Not necessarily. Not at all. But possibly so. Now, how about that for an answer?” Jones said.

Simply put, Jones has not taken broad swings at players ahead of the trade deadline, and it appears that will be the case in 2025. The issue is that he also didn’t do much to improve the roster in the offseason.

At some point, the front office has got to convince him that giving up this kind of yardage to opponents will not make the Cowboys a playoff-caliber team.

The NFC is stacked with strong teams like the Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and more. The Cowboys in their current state are not ready to compete with the upper echelon teams.
