Through the first five weeks of the 2025 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys have had one of the league’s best offenses. However, that may change after the organization revealed some shocking news about injured rotational running back Miles Sanders.

Javonte Williams has emerged as the clear workhorse running back in Dallas, ranking inside the top five in rushing yards on the season thus far. Sanders, meanwhile, has been used to spell Williams in spurts, often being utilized as a receiving back for the Cowboys’ high-profile offense.

It initially appeared that Sanders may be nearing a return after missing the team’s Week 5 win over the New York Jets with a knee and ankle injury, returning to practice in a limited fashion on Wednesday. Unfortunately, it turns out, the injury for Sanders is far more severe than anyone initially thought.

If there is a silver lining to be found for Cowboys fans, it is perhaps that Jaydon Blue, who was a dynamic playmaker at the collegiate level at Texas, may now get a chance to prove his worth moving forward with Sanders out of the picture.

Regardless of how effective Blue ends up being in his new role, it will certainly be interesting to see what Sanders’ official diagnosis is regarding his injuries. Given the fact that he just practiced, albeit in a limited fashion, it’s a pretty jarring update for him now to be ruled out for the remainder of the year.

While Sanders wasn’t in a feature role by any means within the Cowboys offense, his absence could certainly be felt within the Cowboys running back room, given how reliable the former Pro Bowler has proven to be throughout his seven-year NFL career.
