Barstool Sports founder and president Dave Portnoy is a Michigan man through and through, and he could not hold back after watching his archrival, Ohio State lost in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals to the Miami Hurricanes.

Portnoy, who earlier in the day watched as his own Michigan Wolverines were run over by Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns, disregarded his team’s loss while putting the Buckeyes defeat as the focus.

“Well, that was embarrassing,” Portnoy started in his post-game reaction posted on social media at the end of the Cotton Bowl. “I’m a Big 10 guy. We’ve been talking about how we’re the best conference in America, and one of our ‘premier’ teams — granted they haven’t won the Big 10 in 100 years — … loses to the ACC.”

The Barstool Sports kingpin would then go on to apologize for Ohio State’s ‘embarrassing’ performance against the Hurricanes on Wednesday night.

He would follow up his review of the game by promising the Big 10 faithful that, now that Kyle Whittingham is the main man in charge of the Michigan Wolverines, they would restore the conference’s respect.

This officially ends a two-year run for two of the biggest rivals in all of North American sports. Michigan won the national title two years ago against Washington, and Ohio State captured the title versus Notre Dame earlier in 2025.

If the Big 10 hopes to make it a three-peat, it will come down to two teams playing on New Year’s Day. Oregon will attempt to beat Big 12 champion Texas Tech before Indiana faces Alabama in the Rose Bowl.

For Ohio State and Michigan, their attentions will now turn to the transfer portal. Portnoy was credited last year as one of the primary voices behind the recruitment and signing of current starting quarterback Bryce Underwood.
