New Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken is liable to hunt quarterback options this offseason, including in the NFL draft, which means either Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders could be on their way out of town just one year after landing with the franchise.

Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com authored a mailbag on Sunday, February 22 and discussed the possibility that Gabriel could be on the move if Monken and company decide to take a swing on a mid-round quarterback of their own — specifically Drew Allar of Penn State.

“As for drafting Allar, I’m all for taking developmental quarterbacks and seeing where it might lead,” Cabot wrote. “If the Browns find one they like, perhaps they’d want to see what they could get for 2025 third-rounder Dillon Gabriel.”

Browns Insider Drops Hint About Shedeur Sanders’ Future

Gabriel played reasonably well during his rookie campaign, albeit with great caution and little explosiveness, tallying 937 passing yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions on a 59.5 percent completion rate. He finished the year 1-5 as a starter across 10 appearances.

Cleveland reportedly views Gabriel as a solid backup heading into Year 2. If the rest of the league feels similarly, the market for the 25-year-old QB will probably be in the range of a fifth- or sixth-round draft pick in April.

Meanwhile, Allar threw for 7,402 passing yards, 61 touchdowns and 13 interceptions across 45 games for Penn State.

Brad Bournival of the Akron Beacon Journal on February 18 noted Allar’s projection as a fifth-round pick, citing NFLDraftBuzz.com. Cleveland owns pick Nos. 139, 144 and 147 in the fifth round of the upcoming draft.
