In a viral TikTok video, a dog owner revealed what her pup does every time he sees his favorite human going to bed early, and internet users can’t cope with it.

The heartwarming clip shared in October by @amariah.nishay, shows the pup wandering around the living room, looking at his mom chilling on the couch as he subtly moves toward the bedroom, where his dad is.

“Whenever my boyfriend goes to bed early and my dog tries to not hurt my feelings (he loves him more)”, reads layover text in the clip. “Go be with your dad, go. You have permission. Go!” the poster can be heard telling the pup, as he keeps checking back on her before finally going.

“Second tier dog mom … But I’m also behind on grading …” the poster wrote in the caption.

All dogs have a favorite human, and it is surprisingly not always their main caregiver. But how do our canines pick their favorites?

Most dogs tend to bond with the person that gives them most attention and affection. They also tend to like people they have made more of a positive association with, such as those, for example, who’ve given them unforgettably tasty snacks.

If you think you are not your pup’s number one human, don’t worry; you easily become it. The easiest way is by spending at least 30 minutes of focused, one-on-one time together each day. This doesn’t include walks, outdoor time, or watching TV together.

Dogs’ favorite bonding activities include playing fetch, tug, or Frisbee. They also enjoy agility sports and training.

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 875,000 views and more than 179,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Estee, commented: “Actually I think he wants you to both be in there. He’s conflicted because he wants to protect you too.”

Rhyscrownshaw said: “So I’m just gonna go chill with dad? You gonna be OK down here? There’s food in the fridge.”

Jupiter added: “My dog is the same way. I had her before I met my husband and now all she does is wait for him to get home. I lost my dog and my man.”
