President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dipped to a new low for his second term in office, a survey by The Harris Poll and HarrisX shows on Monday.

Why It Matters

Shifts in approval and disapproval ratings could signal broader erosion and complicate the Republican Party’s midterm strategies, especially as multiple trackers show Trump significantly underwater nationally.

Recent surveys also recorded record or near‑record lows within key demographics, including men and independent voters, potentially compounding headwinds for the White House amid public concern over the cost of living in the U.S. and the war with Iran.

What To Know

According to the poll, Trump’s approval rating is 43 percent versus a 53 percent disapproval rating. The poll was taken on March 25 and March 26 among 2,009 registered voters and has a margin of error of 1.99 percent.

The last time Trump’s approval rating was close to 43 percent was in a survey taken in November 2025, when it hit 44. The last two surveys by the pollster show the president’s approval rating at 46 percent last month and 45 percent in January.

Trump’s approval rating on the economy, immigration, foreign affairs and handling inflation has tied or hit new lows, the poll also shows, with 40 percent on the economy, 46 percent on immigration, 41 percent on foreign affairs and 38 percent on inflation.

The poll also shows that 35 percent think the country is on the right track versus 55 percent who think it is on the wrong track. Trump’s favorability in the poll is 42 percent compared to a 52 percent unfavorable rating.

Similarly, a Fox News national poll fielded from March 20 to March 23 found 41 percent approval and 59 percent disapproval, the latter a record high for Trump in either term. The poll was taken among 1,001 registered voters with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

What People Are Saying

Trump, on Truth Social last week: “The Radical Left, Country Hating Democrats are trying to create inner chaos to take away from the great military achievement we are having in Iran. They hate seeing us WIN so completely and decisively, but the American public sees what is going on. AMERICA FIRST! President DJT”

CNN Chief Data Analyst Harry Enten, on X Monday: “House GOP knows trouble’s brewing. A record 36 House GOP retirements so far. Why are they leaving? Just 40% approve of Trump. When pres approval is under 50% in midterms… Pres party avg. loss is 34 seats. The Smallest loss? 9 seats. Dems get a majority with a pickup of 3.”
