Former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer highlighted “4 big questions” that remain in the case of the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.

Newsweek reached out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Tucson, Arizona, via online form Thursday night for comment.

Why It Matters

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for several days. The disappearance and search have since sparked nationwide attention.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said items at the scene indicated Guthrie did not leave “on her own.” The FBI is also involved in the investigation.

What To Know

Coffindaffer took to X, saying, “Nancy Guthrie Case 4 big questions: Who volunteered to take a polygraph? Who passed their polygraph? Who refused to take a polygraph? Who failed their polygraph? Side note: I understand recanvassing Nancy’s neighborhood, but why are investigators recanvassing Annie’s neighborhood? #NancyGuthrie”

Nancy had dinner on Saturday with her daughter Annie Guthrie, 56, and son-in-law Tommaso Cioni, according to The New York Times, which cited Nanos, who also provided key timeline details on Thursday.

The mother left for Annie’s home at 5:32 p.m. and was dropped off at 9:48 p.m. by Cioni, her son-in-law, the Times reported. Nancy’s garage door closed at 9:50 p.m., her doorbell camera disconnected at 1:47 a.m. Sunday, a person was detected at 2:12 a.m. without recorded video and her pacemaker disconnected from her personal device at 2:28 a.m., per Nanos.

The sheriff said Thursday that officials had not identified a suspect or person of interest and that the investigation remained active across multiple agencies. Officials also addressed reports of a ransom note, with the FBI saying an arrest was made tied to an impostor ransom demand as investigators worked to assess the credibility of information received.

CBS News reports that detectives returned to Guthrie’s neighborhood and surrounding areas on Wednesday for follow-up work.

What People Are Saying

Nancy’s son Camron Guthrie, via Savannah’s Instagram account, on Thursday: “This is Camron Guthrie, I’m speaking for the Guthrie family. Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you. We haven’t heard anything directly. We need you to reach out, and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward. But first, we have to know that you have our mom. We want to talk to you, and we are waiting for contact.”

Trump, on Truth Social Wednesday: “I spoke with Savannah Guthrie, and let her know that I am directing ALL Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, IMMEDIATELY. We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely. The prayers of our Nation are with her and her family. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT NANCY! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP”

The FBI, on X Thursday: “The #FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance. She was last seen at her residence in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona, on the evening of January 31, 2026. Learn more at http://fbi.gov/wanted/kidnap/nancy-guthrie.”
