The Florida State Seminoles suffered another disappointing loss on Saturday night, falling to the unranked Clemson Tigers with a 24-10 final score in Death Valley.

Head coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles drop to 4-5 on the season with this ACC loss, losing five of their last six games.

Since going 12-0 through the regular season and winning the ACC Championship in 2023, Norvell has a 6-15 overall record and 2-12 ACC record as Florida State’s program leader.

The pressure on Florida State to part ways with Norvell grows with each ugly loss — and pressure has never been higher than after Saturday night’s loss to Clemson.

If the school were to fire Norvell, he would be owed more than $58 million on his contract buyout. Last month, FSU athletic director Michael Alford announced that Norvell would remain head coach for the rest of the 2025 season with plans to reassess the coaching situation over the 2026 offseason.

College football analysts are already looking ahead toward potential replacements for Norvell.

Joe Rexrode of The Athletic recently predicted Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein to take over as the Seminoles’ next head coach once they inevitably part ways with Norvell.

“The first coordinator hire for us and a young one at 36,” Rexode wrote when explaining his prediction. “That’s the same age Stein’s boss, Dan Lanning, when Oregon took a chance on him as the coordinator of Georgia’s elite defense.

“It’s worked out pretty well for Oregon, in large part because of Stein’s creative mind and player development.”

Oregon is 8-1 through their first nine games, in large part due to the team’s elite offense. The Ducks have scored more than 50 points in three games this season, most recently when they dropped 56 on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Stein’s offense, led by quarterback Dante Moore, recorded 373 yards of total offense against a stout Iowa Hawkeyes defense in Saturday’s 18-16 win.

Norvell and the Seminoles will close out the 2025 college football season with matchups against Virginia Tech, NC State and Florida. Then, the school will take a good look at its options for the future of the program.
