Tortorella was not the only assistant coach hired this week, as Team USA also added David Quinn to their coaching staff.
Seeing Tortorella be named an assistant coach of Team USA is not particularly surprising. He has had plenty of success as NHL head coach over his long career. In 1,547 career games as a head coach split between the Lightning, New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Philadephia Flyers, he sports a 742-612-37-156 record.
Tortorella is a big part of the Lightning’s history in particular, as he was the club’s head coach when they won their first Stanley Cup in 2004. He also won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s top coach in 2004 with Tampa Bay.

At this juncture, Tortorella is the head coach of the Flyers as they continue on with their rebuilding stage.
