The New York Giants are heading into a new era under recently-hired head coach John Harbaugh.

Harbaugh was one of the hottest coaching targets in this year’s NFL carousel after his firing from the Baltimore Ravens. And for a variety of reasons, the Giants presented one of the most desirable landing spots for prospective coaching candidates.

One of the biggest draws in New York was the organization’s young, rising talent — including running back Cam Skattebo.

Skattebo, the Giants’ fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft, was performing at an Offensive Rookie of the Year pace before suffering a gruesome, season-ending ankle injury in Week 8. But with several months of recovery now in the rearview, the 23-year-old ball carrier is approaching a full recovery before his second NFL season.

In fact, Giants general manager Joe Schoen announced a major update regarding Skattebo’s recovery process during his media availability on Tuesday.

Skattebo “will be fine” and should be ready to take the field when the Giants’ offseason program begins on April 6.

“He’ll be fine,” Schoen said. “He’ll actually be prepared for the offseason program on April 6th. He should be good.”

Through eight game appearances and five starts in his rookie season, Skattebo recorded 410 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, 207 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. His best game came against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6, rushing for 98 yards and three touchdowns.

Skattebo is confident in his ability to make a full recovery and return to his impressive production in 2026.

“That’s not even a question,” Skattebo said when asked if he can return to 100 percent. “I’m going to be back. I’ve played seven games in the NFL and I got hurt. There’s a long road ahead. That is not going to stop me.”
