A five-year-old girl has died after she was struck by a ute while riding a scooter outside Rouse Hill Public School in Sydney’s north-west.

Emergency services were called to the school campus on Clower Avenue about 3.45pm on Thursday following reports a child had been hit by the car.

NSW Police said the girl, who is understood to be a student of the school, had been riding a scooter on the footpath before she was hit by a Toyota Hilux utility.

Multiple ambulance crews attended with a medical team and treated her at the scene before taking her to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition, where she later died.

The driver of the ute – a 42-year-old man – was taken to Blacktown Hospital for mandatory testing.

Both the utility and the scooter have been seized for forensic examination. A crime scene was established, and police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
