Gracie Abrams is falling even more in love with Paul Mescal after seeing him in Hamnet.
Abrams, 26, gave fans a rare glimpse at her relationship with Mescal, 29, on Friday, January 16, while paying tribute to the actor and his role as William Shakespeare in the Golden Globes-winning film.
“Also I love him surprise,” Abrams captioned an Instagram Story photo of boyfriend Mescal wearing a “Will Power” T-shirt that had Shakespeare’s face on it.
In the snap, Mescal is smoking a cigarette and throwing open his jean jacket so Abrams can properly see the witty pun on his shirt.
Abram’s declaration of love for the actor came after she highlighted why his latest film is something everyone should go see. (The film follows a young Shakespeare as he grieves the loss of his and wife Agnes’ son, Hamnet, to the plague in 16th-century England.)
“OK so, I’ve found it nearly impossible to find the words to describe the weight of this film and the way it has remained in my bones since I saw it for the first time,” Abrams wrote via her Instagram Story alongside a picture of Mescal and his Hamnet costar Jessie Buckley laughing together behind-the-scenes. “But we are sat in the kitchen right now and I am looking back on these pictures and got immediately teary.”
Abrams proceeded to applaud Hamnet director Chloé Zhao, calling her “singular.”
The “Close to You” singer added: “Jessie is singular. Paul is singular. Thank god for what they made. Go see it and you will be better off.”
Abrams also shared a photo of Mescal squatting down next to a stream, exploring the great outdoors and a picture of a forest.
She posted a picture of Mescal hugging Zhao, 43, as well, simply captioning it with a red heart emoji and green tree emoji.
“PS: The experience of being in a big dark room (three times) packed full of people feeling and sobbing and holding each other … A reminder and a relief. Try that version,” Abrams concluded, advising her followers to see Hamnet in theaters.
Abrams’ praise for Mescal and his latest career accolade comes more than one year after the pair were first romantically linked in June 2024. At the time, rumors surfaced that the duo were a couple when they were seen eating out together in London.
Mescal was spotted that October in the audience of Abrams’ show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City as she kicked off her The Secret of Us Tour.
That same month, Mescal told GQ that he was looking to keep his love life more private.
“I’m not comfortable inviting any access into that part of my life,” the Irish actor said in October 2024. “How I am in my private life is so precious to me because I get very little of it, and it might be public interest, but it’s not public-obligated information.”
The following month, Abrams fueled romance speculation about her and Mescal when she was seen hugging him at the official afterparty for the Los Angeles premiere of Gladiator II.
It wasn’t until July 2025 that Abrams posted a photo with Mescal via Instagram.
“❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” the singer captioned a series of photos from recent months, including a cozy picture with Mescal on a blanket at Glastonbury Festival in the U.K., seemingly confirming their relationship.
That September, Mescal made a rare comment on his and Abrams’ Instagram soft launch, telling Rolling Stone, “I actually do have an answer [as to the timing], but everything to do with that is deeply precious to me and I don’t want to. … This isn’t … I don’t really … umm … I want to protect those things fundamentally.”
