Wade Wilson, who is also known as the “Deadpool Killer,” was convicted for the 2019 murders of Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz. Six years later, his crimes will be examined in Paramount+’s true crime documentary Handsome Devil: Charming Killer.
Us Weekly breaks down everything to know about the case and shares details about the new documentary.
Who Is Wade Wilson?
Wilson is a convicted murderer who killed two women in Cape Coral, Florida.
He committed his first murder on October 7, 2019, according to A&E. During a night out at a bar, he hit it off with Melton and their group headed back to a friend’s house. Wilson and Melton were intimate, though their night together took a terrifying turn when Wilson strangled Melton in her bed, stole her car and fled.
That same morning, Wilson violently assaulted his then-girlfriend, Mila Montanez, at her workplace. His assaults continued when he spotted Ruiz walking to her nearby job, and he asked her to help him with directions. He managed to lure her into his car and he strangled her. Wilson initially thought she was dead and planned to bury her body, though he noticed she was still breathing and ran over her several times with Melton’s car.
Wilson admitted to his crimes while talking to his biological father, Steven Testasecca, during several phone calls. After Wilson shared the graphic details, Testasecca contacted law enforcement and Wilson was arrested later that evening.
Once he was in police custody, Wilson showed no remorse and told authorities he would commit the crimes “again.”
Before his case went to trial in 2024, Wilson dramatically changed his appearance by getting tattoos on his face and neck. Due to his new look gaining attention on social media, the public interest in the case grew and the media dubbed him as the “Deadpool Killer” due to his shared name with the Marvel antihero.
During the June 2024 trial, Wilson was found guilty on six counts that included two counts of first-degree murder, grand theft, burglary and battery, according to A&E. He was later sentenced to death during an August 2024 hearing.

The Handsome Devil: Charming Killer is a three-part docuseries that will look at Wilson’s crimes and will explore why his mugshot made him famous among social media users.
The docuseries will include police bodycam footage and interviews with people close to the case who will share insight on who Wilson really is, according to Variety.
Brian Ross is writing the project, while he will also serve as producer and director with Rhonda Schwartz for Law & Crime Productions. Dan Abrams, Rachel Stockman and Melody Shafir will serve as executive producers, and See It Now Studios, Susan Zirinsky and Terence Wrong are also executive producers. Additionally, Aysu Saliba and Cara Tortora are supervising producers.
“Handsome Devil reveals a dangerous obsession and infatuation with a convicted, brutal killer in the digital age,” Zirinsky, president of See It Now, said in a statement to Variety. “The docuseries explores the intersection between true crime and internet culture, with unnerving and shocking accounts from those who professed their love, as well as those who fought for justice.”
