Welcome to December, folks.
We’re coming off the tailspin of a trying Mercury retrograde cycle, and we will remain in the shadow of that transit through mid-month. Meanwhile, Venus, our planet of love and attraction, spends December in the leather quiver of Sagittarius, giving us all a shot (pun intended) at reframing our philosophies of love, whether that looks like breaking up, breaking patterns, or entertaining unexpected suitors.
To help guide us through these carnal and emotional compass points, author and tarot reader Kerry Ward has prepared a tarot spread for each zodiac element.
“Welcome to a new monthly column using the unique relationship forecast system of Zodiac Love Match to predict the dynamics and unseen forces at play in your own love life,” said Ward
All cards are from her Zodiac Love Match Oracle available here.

Fire signs – Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Gemini, Take The Crown, Home
Ward notes that Fire signs can expect a Gemini, or someone expressing the Gemini archetype of curious, charming, clever and quicksilver, to enter their lives.
“Someone is going to fox you, turn the tables on you, and make you re-assess either what you want in a relationship or what you once had and disregarded. Something is coming full circle and, with it, a fresh insight that speaks to a side of your love nature you haven’t yet understood,” said Ward.
Conversely, the Take the Crown card speaks to leadership, action, and accountability.
“Don’t look to the ‘other person’ to take the blame or make the changes, but instead examine your own actions, habits, and self-beliefs and how that co-creates the ecosystem of the relationships you serve. What would happen if you changed it up?”
Meanwhile, Ward shared that the Home card indicates air signs are nearer to nesting than they think.
“Starting or adding to your future family is at the forefront. Maybe this strange turn of the screw is the final piece in the jigsaw that makes up the alphabet of your own love language. Understanding starts now. Where it leads… you decide.”
Earth signs – Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
The Ex, Don’t Drink The Poison, Fading Feelings
Ward shared that there is definite ‘ex-energy’ swirling about earth signs this December.
“Whether it’s a full-on reunion or just a mental or emotional wandering back down memory lane, old acquaintances and attachments will be stirred up.”
However, she insists that the cards are very clear on how to proceed with a person from your past: “Don’t do it. Don’t step back into that groove or dynamic. You left it behind for a good reason.”
She notes that an ex may be on your mind because your current relationship is suffering from internal and external pressures.
“This time of year, our hype and expectation levels rise whilst our energy and time capacity drops!”
Ward shared that despite the seasonal impetus, you need not pretend to be merry or bright.
“If your relationship needs work or attention, then insist on it, regardless of the occasion or the presence of family members. Life goes on. Work on what needs work. If you know, deep down, you’re coming to the end, start to grieve and prepare for your final farewell.”
Air signs – Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Aquarius, Serve The Relationship, Fun Fling
Ward notes that air signs can expect an Aquarius, or someone expressing the freedom-loving, progressive, eccentric, water bearer archetype, to enter and steal the scene this month.
“It feels like you’re ready to step into more unconventional territory in your relationships, whether that’s your love life or your wider circle. This is not about selfishly getting all that you need at someone else’s expense. This is about carefully crafting a dynamic, habit, and interaction routine that is based on your unique chemistry, needs, and shared worldview,” said Ward.
She shared that air signs have the power to design and attract unusual, unconventional and unusually effective relationship dynamics.
“Perhaps you’re looking for something open, or maybe you’re just seeking social or hobby-based friends. Perhaps you’re dreaming of a festive fling with no strings attached.”
Ward urges all air signs to fly their freak flags in the weirdest of winds.
“As long as you match up with someone carrying the same brief, then all’s fair. Don’t let society’s expectations constrain you. You do you.”
Water signs – Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Free Spirit, Pause & Reflect, A Tended Garden
Ward shared that frustrating, free-spirited energy will define December for water signs.
“Free spirits can be difficult to mesh with in the longer term; they often leave us feeling rejected or less than. However, you will be the one in control of this dynamic, and you will be the one who decides if it works for you or not,” explained Ward.
She notes that water signs will likely “call time” in a relationship.
“Maybe this is a brief separation, a time out to consider your priorities, or even a ghosting. It puts you in a power position, and maybe your free-spirited suitor realises you’re worth staying still for.”
Taking this time and space will allow water folks to relax into attraction and connection and consider any future alignment.
“The relationship you nurture, are honest about, and make a priority this month could be your happy-ever-after, even if it doesn’t feel like it at times. Call it growing pains,” she said.
