Brazil played even with Italy through the first five innings before the Italians broke through with two runs in the sixth, as Italy pulled away for an 8-0 victory on Saturday. Left-hander Enzo Sawayama kept the Brazilians in the game with four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out three, before the bullpen faltered, allowing two runs in the sixth, four in the seventh, and two more in the eighth. Brazil managed just four singles while striking out 15 times.

Mexico had Saturday off after opening pool play on Friday with an 8-2 victory over Great Britain. Mexico took a 1-0 lead on Nacho Alvarez Jr.’s home run in the second inning before the Brits tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. Jonathan Aranda broke it open for Mexico with a three-run shot in the top of the eighth while Alek Thomas finished with a pair of RBI. Javier Assad opened the game with 3.2 scoreless innings before coming out after 51 pitches.
