Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has used question time to bring in his own props, as he jeers at the Coalition’s nuclear energy policy while holding the AEMO report above his head.

Coalition spokesman for energy Ted O’Brien asked Albanese a question about the AEMO report, saying the government’s renewables-only energy policy would cost $121 billion, but does not include costings for projects such as the Snowy Hydro 2.0 scheme.

In response, Albanese rose with the AEMO report in hand.

“AEMO produces an integrated systems plan and they produce it ever year, and indeed, here it is,” Albanese proclaims to the chamber as he lifts the report above his head.

“This is called detail, and they have it on this side – on this side, there’s graphs, there’s details, there’s costs – and on that side, there’s yours,” Albanese said as he turns a blank page of the report towards the opposition.

Speaker of the House Milton Dick intervenes: “The Prime Minister will not use props”.

Albanese ignores the direction, telling the opposition one side of the report (with information) is the government’s climate policy and the other side (with a blank page) is the Coalition’s climate policy.

“What’s extraordinary is that the entire time that they were in office, they ignored the integrated systems plans that were brought down by the Australian Energy Market Operator. They had 22 different policies and didn’t land a single one,” Albanese said.
