Katy Perry’s new single, “Bandaids,” holds special meaning for the pop star.

“Thank you for the love on ‘Bandaids.’ TBH, I struggled for months with the idea of putting this song out,” Perry, 41, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, November 9. “Even after all these years it can be scary to be vulnerable.”

She continued, “Hopefully, the lyrics of this song resonate with someone going through what I have been through and maybe they won’t feel so alone and will find the strength to keep going like I have.”

Perry released “Bandaids” earlier this week.

“Hand to God, I promised, I tried / There’s no stone left unturned / It’s not what you did, it’s what you didn’t / You were there, but you weren’t,” she sings. “Got so used to you letting me down / No use trying to send flowers now / Telling myself you’ll change, you don’t / Band-Aids over a broken heart.”

While Perry hasn’t expressly revealed her lyrical muse, “Bandaids” is the singer’s first new release since the singer and Orlando Bloom ended their engagement. Us Weekly broke the news in June that Perry and Bloom, 48, called off their nuptials after nearly a decade together.

“Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,” a source exclusively told Us at the time. “It’s not contentious at the moment. Katy is, of course, upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.”

Perry, who was previously married to Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012, and Bloom are now focused on coparenting their 4-year-old daughter Daisy Dove. (Bloom is also the father of son Flynn, 14, from a previous relationship.)

“They are still very much in touch and coparenting Daisy together,” a second insider told Us at the time. “Orlando brought Daisy to meet Katy on tour before heading to the Bezos’ wedding. It’s not messy between them. They aren’t making drastic changes for Daisy’s sake.”

Bloom attended Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s luxurious wedding in Venice, Italy, this summer while Perry completed the international leg of her Lifetimes Tour.

In the months since the split, Perry has moved on with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.

“Katy is really into it. She’s very happy,” a third source told Us last month. “She’s trying to keep it low-key, and they’ve spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship. Their friends think they are a good match, but he actually hasn’t met a lot of her friends yet.”

Justin, 53, was previously married to Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, with whom he shares three children, from 2005 to 2023.

The former politician and Perry made their public debut as a couple at her October birthday party in Paris, weeks before the “Hot N Cold” artist joked about her dating status.

“This guy is trying to get me to marry him and he has a ring in his hand,” Perry said during her Prague show on October 30, pointing to a concertgoer. “No! I am dating someone else for crying out f***ing loud.”
