The Kyle Tucker sweepstakes are bound to heat up in the coming weeks. The top three suitors in the sweepstakes are seemingly the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, and New York Yankees. The Blue Jays seem like the favorites for Tucker at this point.

But there could be another team that emerges in the Tucker sweepstakes.

Jackson Roberts of Fastball OnSi predicted the New York Mets would use their buying power to sign Tucker after trading Jeff McNeil.

“It’s time for the Mets to exercise their spending power, which they’ve held off doing for the most part,” Roberts wrote. “And seeing as no team has yet stepped up and delivered a $300 million-plus contract to four-time All-Star Kyle Tucker, why shouldn’t New York throw its hat into the ring?

“Mets fans were furious when Díaz and Alonso signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles on back-to-back days. This would not only go a long way toward earning David Stearns those fans’ forgiveness, but it would complete the transformation of this lineup into something totally new, and arguably more powerful.”

The Mets haven’t been very closely connected to Tucker, which is surprising because of their deep pockets.

But the Mets could use their deep pockets to steal Tucker away from the Chicago Cubs and the other suitors.

After missing the postseason this year, the Mets should be desperate in free agency. Signing a player like Tucker is exactly the move they need to make to get back to contending for World Series titles.
