The LSU Tigers are hosting five-star USC transfer Husan Longstreet, who entered the portal only a matter of days ago, though new head coach Lane Kiffin is wasting no time in recruiting him.

LSU has a major need at quarterback, with more than one player expected to come through the portal, as the depth chart has been cleaned out heading into the 2026 season.

Quarterback is the most important position to nail in football, though for a Lane Kiffin team to succeed, it is even more important.

Kiffin is an elite talent evaluator at the position, and his offensive system has produced strong results regardless of the team’s quality, though elite quarterbacks have been able to elevate his teams to a higher level.

More than a week through the transfer portal, LSU has been aggressively targeting quarterbacks, making a serious push at Brendan Sorsby, who ended up going to Texas Tech.

Also, Sam Leavitt has been on a visit to the school, though he has also visited Tennessee and Miami, while Oregon looms as another option.

According to reports, Kiffin went to Tennessee and hoped to make a second pitch to Leavitt, who was in between visits, though the quarterback has since visited Miami and is still weighing his options.

LSU was also rumored to be a suitor for Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. — though after he announced his entry into the portal, he quickly recommitted to Washington.

Now, Kiffin and the Tigers are moving their focus to Longstreet, who is on campus. Longstreet was a five-star recruit out of high school, ranked fourth among quarterbacks in the 2025 class.

He maintained his redshirt status while making some appearances in blowouts, meaning he has four more years of college left.

Kiffin and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. recruited Longstreet out of high school while both were at Ole Miss, leaving a potential connection for the coaches to tap into.

While Longstreet is still raw, Kiffin has done more with less offensively, and with some development, LSU could have a potential superstar if he ends up being the solution to their quarterback problem.
