The LSU Tigers are entering a new era of football under the leadership of head coach Lane Kiffin.
After making the decision to move on from Brian Kelly, LSU quickly zeroed in on Kiffin as its primary target in the coaching search. It took a lot of hard work, but the Tigers were able to come to terms on a seven-year, $91 million deal with Kiffin.
Kiffin is one of the elite head coaches in college football. He is fresh off of helping lead the Ole Miss Rebels back to legitimate championship contention. If he can do that at Ole Miss, he’ll be able to turn around a historic LSU football program.

In order to make that happen, the Tigers need to get aggressive. Kiffin will do everything in his power to put LSU back on the map by the time the 2026 season comes around.
One area of need for the Tigers to focus on will be finding their next quarterback. Garrett Nussmeier has been a solid signal caller for LSU, but his college career has come to an end. Kiffin will need to bring in someone who can lead the team to contention.
Keeping that in mind, one name has emerged as a potential option for the Tigers and Kiffin.
CBS Sports analyst Cody Nagel has named LSU as one of the top potential destinations for a current SEC quarterback in the transfer portal. He thinks that the Tigers could be a suitor for Florida transfer signal caller DJ Lagway.
“LSU could be an intriguing landing spot as new coach Lane Kiffin looks for his next quarterback in Baton Rouge,” Nagel wrote. “While Lagway’s five-interception outing against the Tigers this season is one to forget, he did lead Florida to a win over Kiffin’s Rebels in 2024 during a four-game end-of-season streak, showing he can perform in high-pressure SEC matchups. Kiffin even shared a social media post Monday acknowledging Lagway’s decision to enter the transfer portal, so take that for what it’s worth.”
Lagway would be a very intriguing addition for LSU. In the 2024 recruiting class, he was ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and the No. 3 player in the nation according to 247 Sports.

During the 2025 college football season at Florida, Lagway threw for 2,264 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, while completing 63.2 percent of his passes. He also ran for 136 yards and a score.
So far, Lagway has not lived up to his fully potential. A move to the Tigers and playing for Kiffin could do the trick for him.
While it’s just an idea, LSU would make a lot of sense for Lagway. This is something to keep an eye on.
