Prime Video’s Malice followed a male nanny working for a wealthy family while secretly planning to ruin their lives — but how did the show end?
During season 1, which premiered on Friday, November 14, Adam (Jack Whitehall) successfully ruined Jamie’s (David Duchovny) life ahead of the finale. He blamed Jamie for his father’s downfall and his attempt to seek revenge led to affairs and even Damien’s (Raza Jaffrey) murder.
Adam and Jamie’s reunion in the finale led to a face-off as the police closed in. Before the authorities arrived, Adam shot Jamie and escaped. His expression was the final scene of the show, which hinted that Jamie getting what he was hoping for didn’t bring him the pleasure he was hoping for all season.
“It’s so refreshing. It would be such an easy trope if Jamie is fine and everyone survives,” Christine Adams, who plays Jules, exclusively told Us Weekly. “While it is sad, it’s a really satisfying twist.”
Adams, 51, was thrilled about the shakeup, adding, “Audiences really deserve that sometimes. Because we don’t always need to wrap everything up in a nice little bow. I think it’s great TV.”
Jaffrey, 50, meanwhile, praised the other twists — including his onscreen death.
“It’s wonderful getting to play a character who people might write off early on as having been completely checked out. He’s not really engaged in it and he’s quite happy lying on the beach and doesn’t want to know [anything] for a lot of the show,” he noted about Damien’s eventual investigation into Adam. “When you realize, ‘Oh, this character is someone who listens really well and as a result has maybe been able to spot some stuff.’”
He continued: “He also doesn’t care what people think. If he’s got it wrong, he doesn’t care, which is a real great trait. But maybe that’s not the best idea for him.”
Adams also got to be involved in unmasking Adam.
“The audience needs that because I’m sure in those first few episodes they’re seeing what we’re not seeing,” she shared. “They’ll be saying that this guy is a red flag and we need to be worried. With Damian coming in, the audience will need that. That will actually be a relief that somebody is finally starting to sort of dig into his character. Then we can start unraveling the mystery.”
While reflecting on the ending, Jaffrey praised the conclusion, saying, “It’s a proper journey for those characters — and hopefully the audience will be surprised by it in the way we were when we read it the first time.”
Malice is currently streaming on Prime Video.
