Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has been accused of betraying President Donald Trump by the well-known Make America Great Again (MAGA) influencer, Catturd.

Writing on X, the anonymous social media account said the Republican congresswoman had been “stabbing Trump in the back at every turn” and called for her to be primaried.

Newsweek reached out to representatives for Greene by email to comment on this story outside of normal business hours.

Why It Matters

While Greene is a prominent Trump supporter and has become well-known in the Republican Party since she joined Congress in 2021, she has recently been critical of the president’s administration on matters including the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the release of files associated with the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, and foreign policy measures. This has triggered a backlash from some MAGA influencers.

Catturd commands significant influence online. The account has over 3.9 million followers and regularly weighs in on a range of political issues.

Georgia is a competitive battleground state and if Greene loses support, it could affect her chances in the 2026 midterms.

What To Know

Writing on X, Catturd shared an image claiming Greene had made $21 million in five years in Congress and said it was “time to primary and get rid of this fraud.” The account added that Greene was “getting filthy rich while stabbing Trump in the back at every turn.”

“I’m so tired of these complete and utter phonies,” they added.

In August, Greene criticized a report that claimed her personal wealth had skyrocketed since joining Congress. She called claims her wealth was linked to her government role “outright slander and lies.” She said her net worth today, valued at £22.5 million according to public records, came from her family’s construction business and private investment.

In another post, Catturd wrote: “Marjorie Taylor Greene is so cringe now. I feel like taking a bath because I ever supported her. She’s a total fraud who’s gotten filthy rich in a few short years in Congress.”

Greene has clashed with the Republican Party in recent months. Amid the Israel-Hamas war, Greene was the first Republican to call Israel’s actions in Gaza a genocide, which Israel has denied, and urged her colleagues to support an end to supplying arms Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s forces.

In August, she accused the Republican Party of treating women poorly and told the Daily Mail she was “really sick and tired” of the treatment and that she wasn’t sure “if the Republican Party is leaving me, or if I’m kind of not relating to the Republican Party as much anymore.”

Greene has also come to blows with right-wing influencer Laura Loomer.

“Many people need to wake up about her reporting,” Greene said of Loomer on X recently. “Researching facts and then spinning them into lies to serve her agenda doesn’t make her good or trustworthy. It makes her a liar and it makes her dangerous.”

In August, Loomer said she would file an ethics complaint against Greene, while accusing the Georgia lawmaker of an abuse of power over a tweet questioning Loomer’s funding.

What People Are Saying

William F. Hall, an adjunct professor of political science and business at Webster University in St. Louis, previously told Newsweek: “Although, in the past, she has consistently been among President Donald Trump’s most reliable and staunchest supporters, as well as a very vocal and outspoken critic of U.S. involvement in foreign wars, she currently finds herself in a predicament of having to choose between continuing to honor her past positions of being staunchly against further U.S. involvement in foreign wars…and continuing her staunch unwavering support for President Trump’s policy positions, including his evolving policy with respect to potential engagements in foreign wars in the Middle East region.”

Senator Ruben Gallego, an Arizona Democrat, told CNN on October 9 that Greene’s messaging is stronger than some Democrats. “Well, she’s not doing better than me, but she’s definitely doing better than a lot of Democrats,” he said.

Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene told NBC News earlier this month“I’m not some sort of blind slave to the president, and I don’t think anyone should be.”

What Happens Next

Greene has not yet publicly responded to Catturd’s claims. She is likely to attract flak from other Republican figures if she continues criticizing the Trump administration.
