Natalie Joy celebrated her husband Nick Viall’s 45th birthday with a sweet message about their future plans.

“Obsessed with the life we’ve built together!” Joy, 27, wrote alongside a handful of photos via Instagram on Sunday, September 28. “Happy birthday to my husband and baby daddy!!! to more babies, more achievements and even more love ❤️❤️❤️ we are damn lucky.”

Joy and Viall were first linked in 2019 before getting engaged in January 2023. That summer, they announced Joy’s pregnancy and their daughter, River Rose, was born in February 2024.

Viall and Joy wed in a beautiful Georgia event on her family’s farm the following April.

The couple, who cohost “The Viall Files” podcast together, are in the process of trying to expand their family, and have been open and honest about the struggles they’ve experienced. Viall recently revealed during an August podcast episode that Joy suffered a third pregnancy loss.

“As you can see, Natalie is not with us. There’s no easy way to talk about this. … Sadly, Natalie experienced another miscarriage,” the former Bachelor said. “It’s her third this year, our third this year. There’s no really good way to say it — it f***ing sucks. She’s obviously at home resting, healing, both physically and emotionally.”

Viall went on to say that he and Joy want to be “vulnerable” with their listeners but are growing more concerned about having another baby as they’ve now had three back-to-back pregnancy losses.

“It’s far less normal to have two and three [miscarriages] back to back,” he explained. “Now we’re kind of in that scary process of running tests and finding out more about ourselves, and it’s this weird thing of, like, you want them to find something, but you don’t want them to find something. … We’re in this very uncharted territory of fact-finding.”

After Viall shared the news, Joy took to Instagram a few days later to thank fans and followers for their support.

“Hi friends, [I] wanted to thank everyone for the love and support after sharing that we experienced our third miscarriage,” Joy wrote via her Instagram Story. “I took this last week to recover physically from my second D&C, lean on my people and nonstop squeezing my miracle Rivvy girl.”

A D&C refers to the term dilation and curettage, which, according to the Mayo Clinic, is “a procedure to remove tissue from inside your uterus. Health care professionals perform [d&c] to diagnose and treat certain uterine conditions — such as heavy bleeding — or to clear the uterine lining after a miscarriage or abortion.”

“I’m working very closely with my doctors that I love and trust and eager to find out what’s going on so we don’t experience this heartbreak for a 4th time. love yall ❤️,” Joy added of her experience.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a reported one in four pregnancies will end in a miscarriage, though experts believe the number to be higher as pregnant people can miscarry without ever knowing they are expecting.

In March, Joy opened up about her second miscarriage, which she said came just two months after she experienced her first.

“While mourning the loss of our second baby at the beginning of this year, I quickly and very unexpectedly found out I was pregnant again,” Joy wrote in an Instagram Stories post at the time. “It took some time for me to accept what had happened only to be handed another chance so easily and so fast.”

Joy said she eventually found “so much happiness” after her first loss, only to be hit by the pain of miscarriage once again.

“We were finally in a place of complete and utter gratitude. [Then], this past week, I miscarried again,” she shared. “I underwent a D&C this time, which was harder than I imagined.”

In a sweet Instagram message celebrating her birthday in August, Viall called Joy “the most incredible partner a husband could ever ask for.”

“It’s been another incredible year with you in our almost 6 years together,” he added. “What we’ve done together as a team has truly been a dream come true. To think we are only getting started. I love you ❤️.”
