Today, September 17, marks Voter Registration Day across the U.S.
With the November 5 presidential election a matter of weeks away, Voter Registration Day serves as a reminder for all eligible Americans to register to exercise their democratic right this fall.
“The effort seeks to amplify the voices of every citizen by ensuring voter registration opportunities are available, widespread, and inclusive,” the official campaign said in a press release, saying the effort strives “to make sure every eligible American has the opportunity to register to vote for the November 5, 2024, general election.”
Voting registration deadlines differ according to which U.S. state you live in. Some states have a flat deadline for registration. Others have different deadlines depending on whether you register via phone, in-person, online or by mail. Some states, like California and Maryland, allow you to register to vote and cast your ballot on the same day.
Most voters have more than a month to register to vote in November. Here are the deadlines for all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, according to the U.S. Vote Foundation:
