Matt Rhule is doing his best for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and as the two-week transfer portal period began, he knew he needed to find at least one new quarterback.
Five-star recruit Dylan Raiola announced his departure from Lincoln after two years and set in motion Nebraska’s search for a new signal-caller in the transfer window.
On Sunday, the third day into the 15-day free agency period, Rhule and his staff locked down who could be the QB of the future for the Cornhuskers.
Notre Dame dual-threat quarterback Kenny Minchey has signed with Nebraska and is projected to be their starter under center for the time being, as we still have almost a full two weeks left until the portal closes.

A four-star recruit out of Tennessee, Minchey came to the Fighting Irish in 2023 and patiently waited on the bench for his opportunities. While he saw more playing time in 2025, it wasn’t enough to keep him in South Bend, as he entered the transfer portal a few days ago before ultimately ending up with Matt Rhule’s program.
It has been a rough portal season thus far for Rhule’s Cornhuskers, who’ve seen over a dozen players leave the facilities since the portal opened.
After having aspirations of bringing Nebraska to prominence when he was hired three years ago, Rhule’s back is now against the wall to find an eight-win season or more in 2026, or else possibly find himself out the door like some of his players. Â
The transfer portal officially closes on Jan. 16, 2026.
