The man shot and killed by a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officer on Saturday appeared to be coming to the aid of another person who had been pushed by an officer before he was surrounded, pushed to the ground and shot multiple times.
A video shared and published by Drop Site News shows a different vantage point, giving a clearer picture of what transpired just before, during and after the shooting occurred. In the video, the man, who Minnesota Star Tribune has identified as 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti, appears to be filming with his phone as he walks in the street. He then appears to attempt to help another person who has been pushed to the ground before he is surrounded by agents.
“Another angle of federal agents killing a Minnesota legal observer, which appears to come from the direction of the woman in pink filming from the sidewalk,” Drop Site News captioned the video.
After the shuts are heard, a person, possibly the person filming, can ve heard screaming, “What the f*** did you just do? What the f*** did you just do?” The man can be seen laying completely still on the street as officers initially back away. After a few seconds, one returns to the body and appears to attempt CPR.
“Someone call an ambulance,” can be heard, apparently by the person filming.”Somebody needs to call the ambulance. Somebody call 911. I can’t believe they just did that.”
In a statement, DHS said: “An individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, seen here. The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. More details on the armed struggle are forthcoming. Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene.”
In a press conference after the incident on Saturday, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the man shot was a U.S. citizen and a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry. O’Hara said that the man killed was a 37-year-old White man from Minnesota.
Shortly after the shooting, Governor Tim Walz said he had spoken with the White House in an X post.
“I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening. The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now,” he wrote.
Trump responded to the shooting later on Saturday, writing on Truth Social: “This is the gunman’s gun, loaded (with two additional full magazines!), and ready to go – What is that all about? Where are the local Police? Why weren’t they allowed to protect ICE Officers? The Mayor and the Governor called them off? It is stated that many of these Police were not allowed to do their job, that ICE had to protect themselves — Not an easy thing to do!”
