Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the National Football League (NFL), is facing calls to be fired from MAGA and right-wing voices online, following the Super Bowl LX.
Newsweek has contacted the NFL for comment outside of regular working hours via email.
The Super Bowl took place on Sunday and featured a performance from Bad Bunny at the halftime show. That show became the most watched of all time, drawing in 135 million viewers, as per CBS News.
That milestone follows months of mounting backlash against Bad Bunny, as MAGA and conservatives have taken umbrage with the 31-year-old performing at the Super Bowl, due to his criticism of President Donald Trump, his comments about avoiding U.S. performances due to concerns over ICE raids, and the fact that he sings all of his songs in Spanish. That backlash has been criticized for at times being racist in tone.
Now, following the halftime show, voices on the right are calling for Goodell to be fired, arguing that he has “ruined” the NFL. This comes as the league has in recent years become a flashpoint in online culture wars, as voices from MAGA and the right criticize it for being “woke.”
This is a developing story. More to follow.
