Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were hoping to squeak their way into the College Football Playoff after winning 10 straight games to close out the season, but that didn’t end up happening.
Instead, the committee decided to leave Alabama in the playoff and they placed Miami in over Notre Dame. Following that news, the Fighting Irish decided to decline their bowl game invitation, ending a depressing finish to what had been a great all-around season.
Unfortunately, to start the year, Notre Dame lost to both Miami and Texas A&M. That was apparently too much to overcome.

Lately, a lot of rumors have surrounded Freeman’s coaching future. He seems likely to stay with the Fighting Irish, but there were many college teams with interest in him and a few NFL teams have been brought up as possible landing spots.
Regardless of what ends up happening in the future, Freeman has Notre Dame heading in the right direction. Last season, he led the program to the national championship game before falling to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
With that being said, the Fighting Irish took to social media to announce some major news about Freeman after missing out on the College Football Playoff.
On Tuesday, Notre Dame announced that Freeman has been named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.
“The Golden Standard,” the post read. “Coach Marcus Freeman has been selected as a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.”
Freeman is very deserving of the recognition. He took what could have been a long season and turned it into a special run. The year didn’t end as he had hoped, but he deserves credit for a 10-game winning streak after losing the first two games of the season.
Alabama Named in Paul Finebaum’s Head-Turning CFP Prediction
Since taking over as the head coach of the Fighting Irish back in 2021, he has led Notre Dame to a 43-12 record. Becoming one of the best head coaches in college football is not something easy to do. He has turned the Fighting Irish into a program that should be a championship contender year in and year out.
It will be interesting to see who ends up winning the award, but Freeman has a good shot at it.
