Police responded to the scene of the single-vehicle collision at around 1:18 a.m. in the area of East Spring Street and Lakewood Boulevard, ABC 7 reported.

Firefighters discovered four people inside the gray sedan and pronounced them dead at the scene.

Video of the wreck showed flames shooting from the mangled vehicle.

Lakewood Boulevard was closed in both directions between Spring Street and Willow Street as officials urged drivers to avoid the area.

“It is unknown whether speed, distracted driving, or impaired driving were contributing factors,” Long Beach Police told ABC 7.

Late Saturday morning, the National Transportation Safety Board announced that it would be sending a team to investigate the crash.
