Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young left Sunday’s Week 7 matchup against the New York Jets with an ankle injury.

He suffered the injury while taking a sack late in the third quarter and was ruled out for the remainder of the 13-6 win. Young was replaced by veteran signal-caller Andy Dalton, who completed 4 of his 7 pass attempts for 60 yards to close out the game in the fourth quarter.

Young’s status for next Sunday’s Week 8 matchup against the Buffalo Bills is now in question.

Initial X-ray tests on Young’s ankle came back negative, according to team insider Joe Person of The Athletic. The Carolina signal-caller now awaits MRI testing to determine if the injury resulted in any serious ligament damage.

“X-rays on Bryce Young’s right ankle were negative, per source. Usually standard practice to follow up with an MRI in these cases,” Person reported on X.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales refrained from speculating over the severity of Young’s injury.

“We’re taking all the information in,” Canales said after the game, via ESPN. “We’re going to look at him when we get home some more and see where we are.”

Panthers running back Rico Dowdle gave an encouraging update on Young during his postgame media availability.

“I know he got the X-ray and stuff, but he said he’s going to be fine,” Dowdle said.

Young finished the game with 138 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions on 15 of 25 passing. He also rushed for 10 yards on two carries.

“Obviously, Bryce can do a lot of good things with his feet,” Dalton said of his performance in the fourth quarter. “But for us, especially when I got into this game, we were trying to milk the clock as much as we could. But I don’t see it changing a whole lot.”

The Panthers have won each of their last three games after beginning the season with a 1-3 start. Now 4-3, the team will look to build on their momentum in a tough matchup against the Bills.
