Pete Davidson is pulling out all the stops to treat his girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, amid her pregnancy with their first baby.
“Pete is taking me on a surprise date,” Hewitt, 29, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Friday, October 17, sharing a pic of Davidson, 31, seated across from her on a private jet.
After the pair’s flight landed, Hewitt still had no idea where they were or why until the comedian revealed that they were in Minnesota to attend Sir Paul McCartney’s concert at U.S. Bank Stadium that evening.
“I’m crying he’s so cute,” Hewitt captioned another Instagram Story post about Davidson’s plan.
Davidson also arranged for the couple, who confirmed their romance earlier this year, to meet the 83-year-old musician backstage before the show.
“That was really like a special lil bucket list moment for me,” Hewitt gushed in a follow-up post. “[Paul] is pretty much the one person I’ve always wanted to meet. Do I have the sweetest, most thoughtful [boyfriend] or what?”
Davidson and Hewitt announced in July that they are expecting a baby.
“Welp, now everyone knows we had sex,” Hewitt jokingly wrote via Instagram at the time, sharing a handful of maternity photos.
Later that month, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that the couple were ecstatic to welcome a little bundle of joy.
“Pete and Elsie definitely weren’t planning on starting a family, but are over the moon about it. They are so excited,” the insider told Us. “Pete and Elsie have a really playful relationship, and things are going really well.”
According to the source, Hewitt’s pregnancy has “brought them even closer” as a couple.”
“Pete has always wanted to be a dad and thinks the timing in his life is perfect. He couldn’t have done it a few years ago but is in a very different place in life now,” the source added. “He’s had a great year so far with two movies coming out soon, another in production and a return to stand-up.”
Davidson himself has also explained why it’s the right time to embark on parenthood.
“Thank God that I’m sober and where I am,” he said on Theo Von’s eponymous podcast last month, referring to his previous alcohol and drug struggles. “I don’t think anyone’s ever, like, ‘I’m ready.’ I wouldn’t know, but I wish I had more time of sobriety because it’s only been, like, a year and change. I’m very grateful that it happened now and with Elsie.”
Davidson further explained that, before he was sober, he felt that he needed “to have a kid and get married.”
“That was my goal,” he said. “That’s how I grew up, like, all my aunts and uncles got married at 21, and they knew each other since grammar school and they had three kids by 26. … But, I was so not ready [by then]. I still don’t know who I am, but I’m learning.”
Davidson had taken a hiatus from dating — and romancing several high-profile stars — to focus on getting sober. After he was clean, Davidson found a “healthy relationship” with Hewitt.
