The Philadelphia Phillies lost in the postseason as their season ended in heartbreak again. And the heartbreak could continue in free agency.
National League MVP candidate Kyle Schwarber is headed into free agency and it’s going to take a big contract to sign him. The Phillies can’t afford to lose him in free agency, especially as he continues to get better with age.
ClutchPoints’ Bailey Bassett recently predicted Schwarber would re-sign with the Phillies on a huge four-year, $125 million deal this offseason.
“Kyle Schwarber is beloved by Phillies fans and expected back in Philadelphia,” Bassett wrote. “His plate discipline-power hitting combination is unmatched in baseball, and the Phillies need to bring him back for one more World Series push before they give up on this aging core.”
Schwarber should be the team’s top priority this offseason. He’c coming off a near-MVP season, which will drive up his value, but the Phillies need to pay him whatever he wants.
Schwarber is a fan favorite in Philadelphia while being one of their best players. It’s going to be an expensive signing, but it’s necessary if the front office wants a World Series in the near future.
