The Philadelphia Phillies are in quite an interesting spot this offseason. They have a lot of talent, but they need to clear some money off their books if they want to sustain success in the future.

As a result, struggling outfielder Nick Castellanos has found himself mixed around in trade rumors. Castellanos is attached to a big contract and he’s coming off a year in which he had a negative WAR.

Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly listed the Colorado Rockies as the best fit in a trade for Castellanos this winter.

“After a 119-loss campaign — and three straight seasons of 100-plus losses — the Rockies could use a veteran with an edge as they try to get their franchise back on track,” Kelly wrote. “Castellanos could split his time platooning with Mickey Moniak at DH and Troy Johnston at first base, two left-handed hitters. He also still does have the ability to go out to the right field, though Coors Field is a spacious outfield.”

The Rockies surprisingly make a lot of sense for Castellanos.

They’re not expected to win much and their payroll is near the bottom of the league. They could afford to take on Castellanos’ contract if the Phillies attach a prospect to him in a potential trade.

Castellanos should be able to produce a bit better in Colorado than in Philadelphia. The hitter-friendly confines of Coors Fields alongside the much lower pressure should boost his production in a big way.
