Ed Sheeran has made a stopover in Ipswich ahead of three Brisbane shows this weekend following a loud online campaign to bring him to the city that shares a name with his English hometown.
Ipswich mayor Teresa Harding has been trying to tempt Sheeran to Ipswich ahead of his Australia tour, beginning with an interview on 4BC in May 2025.
The campaign morphed into a citywide mission, with a local pub putting Ed Beeran on tap, and a local radio channel hosting a Paint the Town Ed party, which included plenty full-size Sheeran cut-outs and a mural of the pop star.
Sheeran is known for visiting towns called Ipswich, which is the same name as the city he was born in on England’s east coast.
While he didn’t play a song while he was in town Sheeran did stop by to sign the mural and leave a message for Harding.
“There’s a new mayor in town,” he wrote in a caption of a video of him at the mural.
“Lots of love, Ed,” he scrawled on the wall before heading to his Brisbane shows.
